Is your physician ‘in’ or ‘out’ of your network…?

When you go to your doctor’s office, do you assume your Doctor is in your healthcare network? If you make this assumption, you could be making a very big mistake.

I hear too many times that someone ‘thought’ their physician was in their network. When making your appointment, have the office staff verify with the insurance company BEFORE you see the physician. And then get it in writing on the physician’s letterhead. If you receive a bill from the physician’s office, and feel the amount is more than what the insurance would allow, you then have documentation that they verified their status with your insurance company. Also, don’t take it for granted that the physician is checking insurance status of the other doctor’s that he/she may be referring you to. You must do your own homework and check the status for yourself.

If you or someone you know has recently made this mistake, I may be able to help…
